Grace Kelly simply has to go down in the fashion history books as one of the most flawless and elegant specimens the red carpet has ever seen.
Effortlessly chic, beautifully timeless and the epitome of 1950s glamour, the Grace Kelly look is something we here at Secret Sales only wish we could emulate.
But now in celebration of the opening of an exhibition showcasing the iconic wardrobe of the film star – who went on to become Princess Grace of Monaco – at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, curator Jenny Lister has given fashionistas over at the Daily Mail some top tips on how to achieve an elegant look.
"From the casually chic capri pants, headscarf and sunglasses she wore alongside the debonair Cary Grant in the 1955 release To Catch A Thief to the ice-blue satin dress she chose to wear to the Academy Awards in 1955, it would be easy to adapt these looks for 2010," she states.
Create your look around a key piece, advises Jenny. Tailored jackets, satin evening dresses and fitted jumpers would all sit comfortably in the wardrobe of Grace.
But if you want to fully encapsulate her look, accessories are the way forward – think huge tortoiseshell-framed sunglasses, pearl jewellery and of course, designer handbags.
In my opinion Princess Grace was the Alexa Chung of her day – the Hermes Kelly bag was named after the star in 1956 in a similar way to Mulberry designing the Alexa bag as an ode to the British TV presenter.
Do you think we should look to the 50s for inspiration this season?
