Fashion for Haiti raises $1 million

Fashion for Haiti raises $1 million

There’s nothing I love more than seeing the fashion industry support a good cause – whether it’s making a stand against the cruel and unnecessary use of fur or campaigning for catwalks to be more inclusive, I think it’s great when the voice of the designer clothing world is put to good use.

And there is nothing quite so worthwhile as raising money for the victims of the Haitian earthquake disaster, which is still affecting the lives of many people who have been left homeless following the January tremor.

That’s why I’m thrilled to report that fashionistas over at Vogue have reported that the marvellous US Fashion for Haiti campaign has now managed to raise a staggering $1 million (£646,975).

The fabulous clothing designer and president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America president Diane von Furstenberg presented a cheque to former president Bill Clinton, which is to be put towards assisting victims of the disaster with rebuilding their lives.

But we Brits didn’t do too badly either. An Alexander McQueen dress, modelled by Kate Moss, was bought by High Street mogul Sir Phillip Green for £100,000 at February’s Fashion for Relief show and auction.

The astounding £1.4 million proceeds from the event – organised by none other than Naomi Campbell – were donated to victims of the earthquake.
