The corset is something that we females have relied upon for centuries – women in the early 1900s wouldn’t have been caught dead without one and modern variations of the corset, such as control pants, are a must-have for any designer dress-wearing diva who has gorged on a little too much cake.
And while there is absolutely no denying that these inventions are the work of a genius, they should only be found in the wardrobes of one gender. Women.
That’s why when legendary clothing designer John Galliano recently sent male models down the catwalk fashioning man corsetry, I was quite frankly, horrified.
But luckily, it would appear I’m not alone. Alexis Petridis, men’s clothing guru over at the Guardian, thinks this trend is something that is not going to catch on, even among the most fashion-forward of males.
Phew, we can breathe a sigh of relief.
"No one thinks a man wearing a corset is cool. They just think he’s fat," he says.
"While the female corset has undergone a transformation from underwear to outerwear, the male equivalent stays hidden under the clothes, a source of shame, proof of an inability to keep off the lager and crisps."
I couldn’t agree more, Alexis. So if you see your partner enviously eyeing your corset, tell him to keep his mitts off – it’s not big and it’s not clever.
However, two stars who do not agree with me go by the names of Jude Law and Leonardo DiCaprio.
According to the Daily Express, the dashing duo wore figure-enhancing corsets when filming 2004 hit flick The Aviator.
Is it ever acceptable for a man to wear a corset?

Not sure I entirely agree with you. I prefer a trim look than a slob any day.
