Alice proves to be a trend-setter

Alice proves to be a trend-setter

While Alice in Wonderland is no doubt a style icon for seven-year-olds far and wide, it is unlikely that she has passed through many grown-up fashionistas’ radars.

But all that is set to change as the upcoming Tim Burton cinematic twist on a modern classic has already got fashion tongues wagging.

Clever fashion folk over at the Independent have noted the similarities between the collections of various hot, young clothing designers and the film’s leading lady.

"The spring trends gel perfectly with the sinister dreamscape that Burton has created. The look is girlish without being saccharine, and pretty but not schmaltzy," states Harriet Walker.

Christopher Kane showcases chiffon pink and blue gingham dresses in his spring collection, with applique patterning and sequin finishes bringing Alice’s style bang up to date.

Similarly, Louise Goldin used spring colours of ice-cream lilac, powder blue and yellow in her body-con designer dress range, which would certainly get the character looking saucy.

Alice-style headbands are very now (not to mention practical) but please draw the line at a pocket watch – which are all kinds of naff.

Helena Bonham-Carter and Anne Hathaway – who are both starring in the piece of cinematic genius – opted for stunning Vivienne Westwood creations at last week’s Alice in Wonderland premiere.
