I am absolutely thrilled to be able to report that one clothing designer has shown at London Fashion Week that big is most certainly beautiful.
Watching size 14 and 16 models flaunt their curves at Canadian designer Mark Fast’s show on Saturday (February 20th) was a breath of fresh air from the skinny size 6′s that we usually see modelling the upcoming clothing trends.
The fabulous Crystal Renn modelled a bright red bodycon knitwear number, while beautiful student Hayley Morley flashed the flesh in a low-cut black and khaki number.
Including curvier women in his catwalk show was part of Mark’s campaign for the fashion industry to use more "real-sized" women.
"It is important for me to continue using curvier models because there needs to be an understanding that my clothes are for all body shapes," he says.
"There are real women out there that want to be able to escape into the fantasy of fashion just like everyone else, regardless of their size."
Fellow fashionista Victoria Beckham recently joined the skinny model debate, saying that she thinks clothing designers as a whole are not ethically aware enough and that they shouldn’t be using models who are too thin in their shows.
I think using models like Crystal Renn and Hayley Morley is a great start for the fashion industry but I definitely believe that there is a long way to go before it becomes more inclusive.
Do you think we need more curvy girls on the catwalks?

I’d love to model for Mark Fast seeing as I am a pretty size 14 canadian.
I think he’s doing a great thing. As for Victoria Beckham, I do really like her, but I think she could try putting her ‘money where her mouth is’. It’s all very well saying that designers shouldn’t use models who are too thin but what about her size? Just my thoughts but loving all the FW stuff at the moment. thanks
I don’t see why there has to be an extreme – it’s either size 4/6 or size 14/16. What about the more common sizes in the middle – a size 10 or 12 maybe. I would prefer to see that.
