Great news for designer clothing fans! Shopping is good for you … and the more you buy the better.
Department store Debenhams has conducted research which has revealed that on average, women in the UK will walk 150 miles in the pursuit of clothing!
And the more you buy – and the heavier your bags get – the more exercise you will be doing.
The study claimed that the combination of carrying the extra weight as well as walking around the shops was enough to burn 385 calories per week for the average shopper.
However, this just seems to be the case for women as although females can cover as much as three miles during a 2.5 hour shopping trip, men will only walk 1.5 miles in their 50 minute average splurge.
"The added health benefits we have discovered mean that exercise and losing weight are easily achievable through everyday activities," commented a spokesman for the store.
Mintel revealed earlier in January that buying new clothes for work was fuelled by a desire to get ahead for ten per cent of women. Some 24 per cent added that splashing out on more expensive clothing was not a problem for work if the items were of good quality.
Do you literally shop ’til you drop?
