Here at Secret Sales, cheers went round the office with the news that one of the best-known designers in Britain has collected his MBE from Buckingham Palace.
Burberry chief creative officer Christopher Bailey – who has also received honorary doctorates from the University of Huddersfield and the University of Westminster, as well as becoming an honorary patron of Dublin’s Trinity College’s Philosophical Society – was given the accolade for his work in the UK fashion industry.
"This award also recognises the incredible team that I work with and it is a privilege to be a part of Burberry, a great British brand," he said.
Currently, Bailey is responsible for Burberry’s advertising, as well as all products and collections, multimedia content and the design and development of the brand’s headquarters in London, New York City and Tokyo.
He was named as a Member of the Order of the British Empire on the Queen’s birthday honours list earlier in the year, but only collected his medal at the weekend.
And best of all, he brought his parents along to celebrate the day with him. What a gentleman – and what a brilliant ambassador for British fashion!
The Times reported recently that Burberry is looking to focus on children’s wear, designer shoes, bags and purses as areas for growth in the coming year.
