We all know how I feel about flashing flesh in the office – ladies, less is always more! And whether you’re a corporate high-flyer or a fresh graduate looking to score your first job, there’s nothing more important than power dressing.
There are plenty of fashionable ways to make a fabulous first impression without looking too OTT or flashing too much flesh – and it seems like every fashion writer from the Daily Mail to the Times of India has ideas about what you should and should not wear!
Personally, I’d recommend that you keep it simple. A designer suit from the likes of Dolce & Gabbana could be just what you need to impress your new boss and new research shows that leading UK managers think an investment of at least £300 is money well-spent when it comes to finding a suit that fits you like a glove.
A poll of British bosses carried out by recruitment site TheLadders.co.uk revealed that 37 per cent of those responsible for hiring new staff turned a willing worker away based on a fashion faux pas.
For the ladies, this means leaving your micro-minis, low-cut tops and dangling earrings at home – save them for a night out instead! If you need a bit of a glam fix, your Jimmy Choos can come along with you to the office, as 69 per cent of managers said that high heels made a good impression. But in my opinion there’s nothing worse than a girl teetering on too-high heels, so make sure your look is composed and elegant, rather than as if you have just fallen out of a nightclub a la Mischa Barton.
What are you wearing for your next interview?
