The Focus: Christina London

By Ellie

Finding you perfect watch can be something of a mission for many of us.  As well as liking the style, there’s also the size of the face and fit of the watch strap to contend with.  Fortunately, Christina London has come to the rescue with their collection of unique and original timepieces.

Founded by University of the Arts London graduate, Christina Hembo, the brand’s emphasis on using diamonds has earned it a reputation for affordable luxury that is accessible to all of us.  Think understated bracelet straps, mother of pearl dials and as you’d expect, a smattering of diamonds.

Launching this weekend live at Secretsales.com, Christina London is one not to miss.

My Life at Secretsales.com

By Alison

This week, it’s time to talk creative…

Paul Davies, Head of Creative and Production

How?  I’ve always loved fashion and knew from an early age this was the route for me.   I first studied fashion design but soon realised that it was the end product, the image and the idea that I was more interested in.  I then went on to study fine art, followed by fashion photography.  Everyone in this industry has to put in a lot of work, and mostly for free.  It’s essential to kick start your career.  I chose to move from a freelance career in photography to working for a company, which is the best move I have made.  Nothing beats working in a team towards a common goal.

What?  I look after the Creative and Production department.  This comprises of several teams- Copywriters, Photographers, Digital Designers and Processors.  Together, we work on everything you see.  From getting the sales ready each day, to creative shoots and writing for emails, blogs etc.  No two days are ever the same, but one thing for sure is that there will be an element of pressure involved!  Luckily it’s something we all work well under.

Why?  I joined Secretsales.com because it’s a young, exciting company and ultimately I believe in the founder’s vision.  There’s passion here that you don’t find in larger companies.  Fast-paced, ever-evolving and more importantly a great place to work.  I really don’t get the ‘Sunday blues’ as I enjoy my job and the people I work with so much.

Tips and advice?  It might be completely obvious but be respectful and treat people in a good way.  I always think a smile is a good place to start!  Be prepared to go above and beyond to prove yourself and don’t expect everything in a day.  It will happen if you put the time and effort in.  Mistakes are good as they help you to grow.  Enjoy, enjoy,  enjoy what you do.

Style?   As much as I love fashion, I am not somebody who follows it slavishly.  I take note of what’s on trend and mix it up with clothes I already have.  I can’t really pinpoint my style.  One day its preppy the next it’s something more deconstructed.  At the moment I’m all about clashing patterns and fabrics in tonal shades.  My motto is less is more, more is more!  Just have fun with it.

Monday’s Picks

By Adele

So it’s a Monday rather than a Tuesday start this week (not long until the Jubilee hols!), but never mind because as you know, there’s always shopping highlights here to distract you- s’what we’re here for.

Krystal London- we’ve got a lot of time right now for Krystal, as the costume jewellery look is riding a style wave (visit the Prada, Marc Jacobs or Jil Sander catwalks for first hand inspiration) and here we have our very own affordable take on the instant accessory update of the season.  And it’s pretty too- grunge is ace, but girly can be just as cool.

Fred Perry- if you love polo shirts then you probably aspire to a collection of Fred Perry’s as it is.  But if you’re wondering why you should be converted, then we can offer that Fred Perry has been beloved by tennis players, Sixties [and beyond] Mods and stars like the late Amy Winehouse (who collaborated on several womenswear lines herself.)  And did we mention that Dr Martens, that other Brit-style hallmark, has also recently lent its creative skills to a Perry collab?  And it all started with this humble polo shirt- so boys shop a classic in all the colours of the rainbow.

Nourison Rugs- you know that fantasy you have, where your home is uber glamorous and perfectly decorated, everything you ever imagined it would be?  Well, we get that a lot.  Until that day, we can start one piece at a time- Nourison rugs are luxury, throw-me-down piles which bring you one step closer to that dream pad.

Speaking of cool, Spring/Summer 2012 is the season of modern accessories- from a cap on your head to ‘goggle’ style glasses or a brighter shade of lipstick.  Designer Raf Simons may have been this year’s trail blazer for style, but our favourite pair of shades from this sale are actually by Nike- who have summed up the season best.  The Nike Unisex Rounded Frame Sunglasses will go on sale first thing Sunday morning.

Texture Detail

Being a trendy miss, you’ll probably know that texture is the key trend these days, from layering knits and silks down to a quirky matte finish on your sunnies.  These Jil Sander Women’s Matte Finish Sunglasses are sure to get a few comments (and no doubt, strokes from strangers!)
